Chinese Consulate Kolkata Donates Textbooks & Computers to Indian Children

Mr. Ma Zhanwu, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Kolkata, donated a batch of textbooks and 6 computers to the Indian children with the Stars Welfare Society in Tangra, Kolkata, West Bengal, India on 31 January 2018. Mr. Liu Guozhao, Chairman of the Tangra Chinese Welfare Association and other members from the local Chinese community were present.

Mr. Ma told the students that the Chinese Consulate in Kolkata cares about all the children at the Stars Welfare Society, as it was set up by a family from the local Chinese community to help the underprivileged Indian children living in the neighborhood, and it has contributed to the good sentiments of the mainstream community towards the local Chinese as well as the other way round, and has brought China and India closer to each other. It has gained appreciation and support from people from all walks of life in Kolkata, especially those form the Chinese community.

He said that the Chinese Consulate donated a school bus to help with the transportation of the children about two months back, and today will donate 6 computers as well as textbooks for the children studying here.

The Consul General stated that he hoped the children would make good use of the computers and textbooks and make more progress in the coming months and years, so that they could better contribute to the local society and to China-India friendship when they grow up.

Mr. Ma also presented a photograph of him handing over a model key of the school bus to Mrs. Yasmin Naomi Chung, founder of the Stars Welfare Society, with the Honorable Dr. Partha Chatterjee, Minister of Education of the State Government of West Bengal, witnessing the transfer.

Mrs. Yasmin Naomi Chung thanked the Chinese Consulate for the donation, saying it would greatly help the students in their study here. The children also thanked the Chinese diplomats and performed singing and dancing for the guests.
